Netball Match Report: Preliminary Final Boronia Hawks v Lilydale Falcons

And that’s a wrap for Boronia Hawk’s Premier Division season 2018, losing to Lilydale and ending our Grand Final hopes 51-66.  Lilydale out played us.  They shot with accuracy and rarely lost a ball in their possession.  Although Hawks had some great game play, we just didn’t have what it takes to win tonight.

Hawks had a great season in Premier Division finishing 4th out of 10 teams.  After coming up from Division 1 the team should be very happy with their efforts.  We often had a different team each week with 18 players taking the court for us this season.  While it’s great to have so many players represent Boronia, next year we hope to have a smaller, more united side who play the whole season as a tight unit and take it all the way to the grand final. I truly believe there are bigger and better things to come from this team.

Bad luck ladies. It’s never fun to lose and miss out on the grand final, especially after such a great season.  I do hope you all enjoyed what really was a great season of netball with a lovely group of ladies.  Coaching and managing you has been really enjoyable and I truly thank you all for supporting me.  Coaching is so much harder (and stressful) than playing, but it’s been really nice to stay involved and watch you all play some great netball.  You are such a lovely bunch of talented, kind and friendly girls, your support for each other has been fantastic.  Every time a new player came in, you made them feel instantly part of the team. You all played a hard, competitive and clean season of netball and represented our club with class.  Bumma we don’t get our GF!  You deserve it after this season, but as you all know: that netball!  You win it, you lose it, but we love it!!!

Announcement of 2018 Netball Teams

It is very exciting to announce that Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club will once again be fielding 3 teams in the 2018 EFL Netball season.  Congratulations to Sherridan Martin, our Director of Inclusion and Netball Manager, for all her great work over the off-season in getting everything organised in the lead up to another great year.

We are very pleased to welcome 13 new players across our 3 teams this year, including Ellie Ingerwersen, the former EFL Admin, Events and Netball Manager.  In what is almost a direct swap, former star Hawk Petra Keogh has recently started as Ellie’s replacement with the EFL!

We are also very pleased that our great supporters and sponsors at Glenbrae Signs have refreshed our club logo to incorporate a netball!

Stand by for more announcements in the very near future as we quickly approach round 1 on Friday 13 April.

Welcome to Michael Bruce!

Boronia Hawks are very pleased to announce that Michael Bruce is joining the Club for 2018. Brucey is a strong utility who is coming over from Knox where he has played senior football over the past five years. Please get around Michael and welcome him, and his family, to the Hawka.

Michael Bruce

Welcome to Zak Robinson-Summerfield!

Boronia Hawks are very pleased to announce that Zak Robinson-Summerfield has signed with the Club.  Zak joins us from Knox, where he has played 19 games of Division 1 Seniors and was Most Improved Senior Player in 2016.  Zak will bring a lot to the Hawks with his height and mobility, so please join us in welcoming Zak and his family to the Club.

New Boronia Auskick Co-ordinator

Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club is very pleased to announce that Luke Biddau has been appointed to the role of Auskick Co-ordinator for 2018.  Luke will lead Boronia Auskick Centre to a new era as it moves to Friday nights at Tormore Reserve for the 2018 season.  He will also play a very active role in implementing a series of footy clinics at local schools to open up the opportunities for boys and girls to learn their footy with the Hawks.

Luke is actually a former Auskicker himself, developing his skills up at Chandler Park before moving on to Boronia Juniors.  After a stint in the hills with Olinda-Ferny Creek, Bidds returned to Tormore Reserve as a senior player in 2013.  Known as a dangerous forward, Luke has kicked 42 goals over the last few seasons, which would have been many more except for the curse of nagging injuries.

Luke is a great match-up for the role of the Club’s Auskick Co-ordinator given his working background with Knox Leisureworks and as a youth leader at summer camps in the U.S.A.  Bidds has also been an assistant coach with Boronia Juniors in recent seasons, working closely with Craig “Fletch” McKenzie.  In 2018, Luke is once again working hard from the sidelines as Assistant Coach for the Boronia U17’s.

Please join us in congratulating Luke on his appointment that will lead to an exciting new phase for Boronia Auskick and will underpin the successful footy pathways with Boronia Hawks.

Welcome back to Andrew Catley!

Boronia Hawks are very pleased to welcome back Andrew Catley, who will work with the Colts once again as an Assistant Coach with his former sidekick Craig McKenzie.

Cats is Boronia through and through, but stepped down from our Under 19’s coaching role for 2017 due to increased work commitments.  At that time, Andrew had been a part of our U19 coaching panel for the past 6 years and fast tracked the development of a lot of our talented young players.  A perfect example is that 15 of the 22 players in our Senior final appearance in 2016 had played under Andrew.

Successful Volunteers Information Day

A very big thank you to everyone who was able to come along today for our Volunteers Information Day.  We had a great representation from the juniors and seniors and it is really encouraging to see our One Club coming together so well.

Thanks to Greg Hannon, Matt Clark and Steve Teakel for talking to the group and giving us an insight into their own backgrounds. They also talked about the great pathway they see at the Hawks in bringing our talented juniors through to senior football as One Club.

Thanks as always to Ellen Johnson for her catering and to Boronia Cricket Club for the use of the rooms during the off-season.
