New Lights for Tormore Reserve

A massive thank you to Alan Tudge MP, our Federal Member for Aston, who has assisted the Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club in receiving a Federal Grant for the installation of new lights for the ground at Tormore Reserve.

Alan Tudge_Lights Announcement

This will be a huge boost for the Club in allowing more flexibility in the scheduling of matches at twilight and early evening. It will also bring our training conditions up to date, with the existing lights being below the required standard.

A huge thank you also to Kerryn Westcott who prepared an outstanding submission for the grant.

As our Club Vision Statement says: “The Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club is One Club working together for success on and off the field”.

New Video Scoreboard at Tormore Reserve.

It may have taken a lot longer than we initially planned, but Boronia Hawks are very proud to announce that our brand new full colour electronic video scoreboard has now been installed at Tormore Reserve.

The shutters come up on our new video scoreboard!

Boronia Hawks are very grateful to Knox City Council for all they do to support football and netball for the Boronia community.  On this occasion, we wish to acknowledge Council’s generous assistance in the grant of funds of $40,000 for the purchase and installation of our new scoreboard.  This will be a tremendous asset for the Club for many years to come and will enable us to provide a far better game day presentation for our supporters and sponsors.

We also wish to thank Sandra Bell for her great work to make the successful submission for the grant on behalf of the Club.  Sandra was of course well supported in the submission by our Chairman, Kristan Wood.

A big thank you to our project team that have worked together to ensure the success of the tricky installation of the new panel into our existing scoreboard structure.  Former Treasurer Brian Nightingale was the key player throughout the whole process, along with Ash Johnston our Football Operations Manager.  They were assisted in the final installation by the crack team of Andrew Catley, Bill Notley, Hans Wennagel, Mark McAlpine, Rob Bell and Stu McDonald.  Many thanks to you all for giving up your time for this important project for the Club.

For the technically minded supporters, our sensational new video scoreboard from AusSport has the following features:

  • GameChanger scoring software for Aussie rules, and other sports as required including Cricket, Soccer, Union, League etc.
  • Ability to display all types of graphics, text & video
  • Player profiles and goal animations
  • Wireless data connection
  • FREE lifetime software updates to enable more features
  • The scoreboard can also do the following with additional hardware/software
    • Include video input such as DVD/Blu-ray players, set top box or live video feed connection
    • Video replay input device.

EFL Divisional Structure in 2019

The EFL has recently advised the Clubs of the EFL Divisional Structure for 2019.  Boronia Hawks will be in Division 2, which is still the third division in the competition following the introduction of Premier Division.  We will have a Final Four series for the right to win the premiership and promotion to Division 1.

Boronia will be joined in Division 2 by the bottom two teams of last year’s Division 2 – Mulgrave and Mitcham,  Meanwhile the bottom 6 of our 2018 opponents will drop to the new Division 3.

“The new Competition structure is contained below and outlines which Clubs are in which Division for Season 2019.  In the 10 Team Competitions (Premier and Division 1), the Top 5 sides will play finals and in the 8/9 Team Competitions (Division 2, 3, 4) the Top 4 sides will play finals.  Promotion and relegation will continue to operate as per previous years with the Premiership winning clubs being promoted to higher divisions and clubs who finish on the bottom of the ladder being relegated to lower divisions where applicable.”

Opportunities to Help the Hawks in Key Roles

The Club’s AGM is coming up very soon and we already have nominees willing to stand for many roles. But we also have vacancies where we are looking for Club members to take us forward in to 2019. We seek expressions of interest from all sections of our Club: seniors or juniors, football or netball, men’s or women’s teams. All our volunteers work together to support and guide newbies!

If you would like to become more involved in our great Club please have a word with Kristan Wood, Ellisa Schmidtke or any of our current Board or senior and junior committee members. (Scott Nicholas is off in Nepal right now, so you can contact Dave Nicholas instead).

Roles without any nominees at the moment are:

  • Director, Inclusion / Community;
  • Senior Secretary;
  • Junior Treasurer;
  • Sponsorship Manager;
  • Merchandise Manager;
  • General Committee members for both Juniors and Seniors.

Some of these roles used to be big and scary, but we have managed to share the load and set up processes to make our administrative jobs much easier than they once were.  It is all about TEAMWORK.  We would love to hear from you!
