Kieran Edwards Joins the Hawks

Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club is very pleased to announce that KIERAN EDWARDS has signed on with the Hawka for 2023!

Kieran played juniors for Lysterfield before joining Knox in 2019 for Under 19’s.  He went on to play 32 senior games for Knox and Kieran was the leading goal kicker for Knox last season with 29 goals.  He will be a dangerous addition to our forward line in 2023.

Kieran said “I’m really looking forward to putting in the work and hopefully building towards something big in 2023. It seems like a very tight group down at the Hawks and I’m looking forward to playing with a few good mates and building connections on and off the field with others.”

Please welcome Kieran and his family to the Hawka!

2023 Men’s Division 2 Fixtures

The division will now consist of ten teams, South Belgrave have been promoted to Division One after their Grand Final win over Ringwood this year while Oakleigh District have been relegated to Division Three after going winless in 2022.

Replacing them is the Waverley Blues and Upper Ferntree Gully. The Waverley Blues were promoted after their thrilling two-point Grand Final win in Division Three, they’ll start their season campaign in 2023 against Templestowe at home where they’ll have the chance to unfurl the flag. For Upper Ferntree Gully, they’ll be looking to snap their current losing steak when they play Knox in the first round of the 2023 season.

A top five finals system will still be in place, beginning on August 19th with the Grand Final date set for September 10th.

Vale Mark Grice

The BHFNC is saddened to inform all past players, current players, and supporters of the passing of former player, Mark Grice.

Mark, the proud husband of Jan, father to Dean and Katie, and was a Boronia person through and through!

A dour backman in the late 70’s and early 80’s, Mark made it his mission to welcome all new players to the club and really looked after us younger kids when coming through the juniors. I recall he almost loved training against the younger players more than playing games as his level of fitness was always quite superb! He loved a long road run and gave every training session 100%!

After he retired he became a senior team manager supporting his incredibly talented son, Dean, who went on to win six Bob Henry medals and four League B&F’s.

Mark’s humour, kindness, and warmth was actually the forerunner to what we are all trying to achieve as a club now. He lived our values and was the finest of role models for all the younger players that came through the system in the 80’s.

There will be many Boronia people really hurting tonight with the passing of ‘Gricey’. He was much loved and his passing will be felt.

Please feel free to “like” this post or leave your comment, as a mark of respect for a great man.

Greg Hannon, Senior President, BHFNC
