Outside the Locker Room
Boronia Hawks hosted a terrific session on Thursday 6 June with our Outside the Locker Room: Welfare & Education Program.
We welcomed Shane (facilitator) and Cindy (welfare champion) from OTLR to the Club and they were very impressed to see such a great attendance. Cindy commented the she normally gets around all the tables but that it just wasn’t possible last night due to the size of the group.
Congratulations to one of our players who spoke openly to the group last night to share his journey with mental welfare. This willingness to talk about the issues triggered a lot of really beneficial conversations throughout the room. It so often helps to talk to others.
Many thanks to Wayne Preston for his work in arranging the session. We can really look forward to a second session in around six weeks that will cover “Culture and Leadership.

MIGHTY MITCH MELLIS IN THE BIG WHITE VEE!

Boronia Hawks are very pleased to announce the results of the 2019 Major Raffle, drawn at the Boronia Hawks Ladies Lunch on Saturday 1 June by Jackson Taylor MP.

Retirement of Jess Bolton
Boronia Hawks champion, Jess Bolton, announced his retirement to coaches, players and supporters at Tormore Reserve last night. Jess will play his final game for the Club on Saturday 1 June at Tormore Reserve against Mulgrave.
As many will know, Jess is part of a very successful real estate agency with his cousin and former Hawk, Dan Bolton at Fletchers Mooroolbark. The increasing demands of his work have seen Jess miss a few games already this season. In typically selfless fashion, Jess said that he didn’t want to be taking a spot from one of our young players who are well and truly ready for senior football.
Senior Coach Matt Clark paid tribute to Jess as an outstanding person, footballer and contributor to the Club over many years, highlighting that opposition coaches would always need to plan for Bolts as a key player for the Hawks.
Jess is a true champion of the Club and two-time Bob Henry Medallist.
He was originally a Boronia Junior but left for East Burwood to play 74 games between 2005 and 2007 including 20 games in Division 1 Seniors. Bolts came back to Boronia in 2009 to make his senior debut for the Hawka. He also played 19 VFL games for Casey Scorpions / Demons between 2009 and 2012 before committing 100% to Boronia in 2013.
Jess is one of our most decorated players of any era in the Club’s history. His record includes:
- Boronia U15’s B&F in 2003;
- Bob Henry Medallist for Senior Best & Fairest in 2012 and 2014;
- 2013 and 2017 Senior Runners Up B&F;
- Senior Captain in 2014;
- 2016 Seniors Best Team Player;
- 100th Game Medal in 2015;
- EFL Division 3 Team of the Year in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 & 2017;
- Under 19’s Assistant Coach 2016-17;
- 150th Game Trophy in 2018.
- Senior Premiership player in 2018.

“Outside the Locker Room” – part of the Boronia Hawks Welfare and Education Program.
Boronia Hawks is dedicated to providing our players access to the best welfare programs available.
In 2019 we have engaged Outside the Locker Room to assist us in our Welfare and Education Program by conducting at least two workshops that are specifically designed for young people involved in sporting clubs, focussing on education and support for facing life’s daily challenges.
The first workshop will be held on Thursday 6 June from 7:30pm to 9:00pm in our Club Rooms at Tormore Reserve.
This is a one of a kind program for local clubs to have players mentored by the team at OTLR over a 12 months period.
All senior football and netball players with the Hawks are expected to attend this first workshop as a show of support for team mates.
Coaches will put in place a revised coaching timetable for the night, with times to advised shortly.
Meals will be available at the Club from 6:30pm as per other Thursday nights.

Beyond Blue Round
Boronia Hawks will again be promoting Mental Health Awareness through our participation in Beyond Blue Round.
Our Under 16 Girls & Under 17 Boys will be wearing blue tape this Sunday as a way of raising awareness of an issue that is widespread through all aspects of our community.

GAME 1: 8:40am Boronia Senior Women v The Basin (must finish by 10.25am).
GAME 2: 10:30am Boronia Under 19’s Men v Mitcham (must finish by 12:40pm).
GAME 3: 12:35pm Boronia D Squad v Mitcham (must finish by 2:35).
GAME 4: 2:40PM Boronia Senior Men v Mitcham.
FYI: the new lights for Tormore Reserve are well on the way which will ease the pressure when all four senior teams are scheduled at home on the same day.
Landscaping Work Commences at Tormore Reserve!
Knox City Council has just commenced phase 2 of the Tormore Reserve Master Plan that will see additional landscaping and facilities on the grass area between the main gate and the play ground.
Work will continue for 6 weeks, 6 days a week including Saturdays, with a resulting impact on parking availability.
The landscaping will include a picnic area, a multi-purpose flexi pave area, more trees, more paths and pedestrian lighting to improve the overall amenity of the park surrounding the oval.
