Under 17’s Coaching Announcement

BHFNC is delighted to announce the return of 1986 premiership player, Pierre Schumann as 2020 Under 17 Coach.

Left to Right: Andrew Catley (Junior Coaching Co-ordinator); Craig McKenzie (Under 19’s Coach); Kristan Wood (Junior President); Pierre Schumann (Under 17’s Coach) and Nick Wheeler (Under 17’s Assistant Coach).

Pierre has a long and distinguished career as both a player and coach. He has coached Under 19 teams to 4 premierships and reserves teams to 2 premierships at Knox Football Club. Only this year, Pierre was coach of a most successful Under 19’s side at Knox.

Supporting Pierre will be Nick Wheeler and Kim Brimelow. Nick has had coaching experience at Knox, Eastern Ranges and Upper Gully Football Clubs. Nick brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience and he will be great support to Pierre. Kim also has a wealth of coaching experience and we are confident this coaching team will give our players the foundations required to be successful at the senior level.

We welcome Pierre, Kim and Nick to ‘The Hawka’ and wish them much enjoyment and success. Our club will now work tirelessly to ensure we have a robust list of players to work with.

The announcement of other junior coaching appointments will be made in the next week or two.

Kristan Wood

From Greg Hannon:

“Over the weekend I was fortunate to attend the Knox Club for my first-ever Ray Lacey Medal Night in my role as Senior President.

I sat back as Fletch spoke about each of his players and I thought just how fortunate each Under 17 player is to have a coach, a mentor, a friend and role model like Fletch.  It was evident to everyone in the room how much respect each individual player had for their coach and the esteem they hold him in!

Then yesterday, Fletch took his Under 19’s team to one point off another Preliminary Final.  It was an incredible effort from every player in that team and full credit to Fletch, Cats, and Robbo for getting those boys to play such an exciting brand of football.

Coaching is a tough gig!  You upset parents; you challenge players; you walk a tightrope at times!  All I can say as President of the Club that we are a far better off club having Craig Mc Kenzie working for us than coaching against us!  Fletch makes young boys grow as footballers, but much more importantly, he makes them flourish as young men!

Fletch, our Club thanks you for another fine year”!

Steve Teakel and Matt Clark at Tormore Reserve, Boronia.

Could Boronia coach Matt Clark cross paths with former club Wantirna South?

It’s a possibility.  Clark has recommitted to the Hawks for a further two years after signing a contract extension until the end of 2021.

He coached Wantirna South to a flag in 2014 and joined Boronia ahead of the 2018 season. A premiership this year would take Boronia up to EFL Division 1, where the Hawks would meet the Devils in 2020.

“Hopefully that’s on the agenda,” Clark said.

“Ultimately our goal is to be playing against them next year.”

Clark said it was a logical decision to extend his stay at Tormore Reserve.

“They’re a good club with a really young list and I’m super happy where they’re at and they’re comfortable where I’m at, too,” he said.

“I really enjoy working with the guys. It’s a fun place to be at the moment.”

Clark guided Boronia to a premiership in his first season but the Hawks were not promoted as part of the competition restructure.  Boronia will enter this year’s finals series on a 10-game winning streak if it defeats Ringwood on Saturday in a top-of-the-table clash.  It has already secured the double chance, but has flag rivals in Ringwood, Mitcham, Heathmont and Templestowe in an open premiership race.

Clark said he wanted to take Boronia to Division 1.

“We’re trying to make it a destination club and I think we’re doing a pretty good job of that at the moment,” he said.

“The players are hungry so my job is to obviously steer them in that direction. There’s no guarantee we can get there but we certainly think we’ve got a good formula to be competitive enough and be in the mix to get there.”

Clark said the Hawks would be at near full strength for a tilt at back-to-back flags.

“We’re very happy with who we’re putting out there,” he said.

“We’ve played a couple of guys, like Lachie Watson and Brayden Bowes, in the development team for the last four, five weeks.

“The hard thing — and the good thing — is we’ve got so many guys playing good footy in the seniors at the moment that some of these blokes are just finding it hard to get into the side.

“Internal pressure is driving really good training standards and game-day performance.”

Coaching Announcement

BHFNC_Logo 1 landscapeBoronia Hawks are very pleased to announce the appointment of Greg Granland as Assistant Coach for our Development Squad in 2019.

Greg is no stranger to the Club as the father of Jordan Granland and has been a regular at our games over recent years.  Greg has a strong background as a junior and youth coach and has very recently completed his Level 2 Coaching Accreditation.

He has coached Under 15’s, Under 17’s and Under 19’s with The Basin over the past few years and has been successful in coaching all his teams to finals.

Greg has also been involved in coaching the EFL’s junior inter-league teams over the past five years, which again demonstrates his capabilities and recognition as a coach.

Greg has a passion for developing young footballers and now has a fantastic opportunity to work with Craig Brockley, our Development Squad Coach, and our exciting group of young players.

We are also willing to forget the memorable incident when he split open our Chairman’s head during a Vets game a few years ago!  Please congratulate Greg on joining the Hawka and make him feel welcome when he joins us for the 2019 season.
