Headspace Community Cup

On Saturday, our Senior Men played The Basin at Batterham Park for the Headspace Community Cup.

Like all games against our local rival The Basin, the game was played in great spirit with our boys prevailing in the very windy conditions.

Both teams gathered post-game to hear from both Coaches on the importance of reaching out if you are experiencing a personal crisis.

If you are a player, coach, volunteer or supporter please reach out to a friend or teammate and let them know you need help.

IN MEMORY OF MONIQUE LEZSAK

Today we remember the life of Monique Lezsak, whose life was tragically cut short 2 weeks ago. Monique was the much loved cousin of Boronia Hawks player and coach Stacey Peril.

Monique was the mother of 10-year old twins, she enjoyed bodybuilding, wanted to become a Police officer and had a huge amount of life in front of her. Our Women’s Squad wore white arm bands during their most recent games in memory of Monique, in support of Stacey and as a way to raise awareness of domestic and family violence.

Please consider donating to White Ribbon in memory of Monique. This charity undertakes primary prevention of domestic and family violence in communities, schools and workplaces across the country: www.whiteribbon.org.au/Support-Us/Make-A-Donation/In-Memory

Our thoughts are with all of Monique’s family today, in particular her children and Stacey.

If you, or someone you know, requires support with family or domestic violence please contact 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732) 24-hours a day.

THE HAWKA MID-YEAR REVIEW | FROM THE PRES.

Our Senior President, Greg “Flash” Hannon has a message for the club community at the mid-point of the season as we head into the June long weekend.

It’s hard to fathom that we are at the halfway point of the season already. What’s not hard to fathom is that our teams are having great success which is not only due to talent but also hard work from the Board, Committee, Coaches, and the army of Volunteers that continue to support our club!

So – I wish to acknowledge and thank the following:

~ Our players are all just quality people and terrific ambassadors for our club! Keep supporting our functions and keep using your drive, energy, and initiatives to make our club grow and improve.

~ Our coaching staff are not just great coaches but they all build meaningful relationships with their players and care about the wellbeing of each individual at our club.

~ Our Incredible volunteers range from Committee Members to Board Members to the many that just give a little of their time to ensure our club can tick along nicely. Without our volunteers, we just don’t have a club so a huge thank you to you all!

~ To our Hawks Nest Coterie leadership, our Coterie members and to all our supportersthat give our club undivided support on and off the field.

~ Our loyal sponsors. Our sponsors give us the funding that we require to operate a successful club. Thank you to all of you!

~ To the families of our players. Your support behind the scenes often goes unnoticed. You feed, clean, and offer emotional support to your child, husband, wife, partner, parent and we thank you for that. I’m sure our players do!

Flash (Greg Hannon) – Senior Club President

$1.2M for the new Clubrooms

From our great supporter, Jackson Taylor MP: “$1.2 million to help deliver a new pavilion at Tormore Reserve in Boronia is now fully funded. In other words – you beauty!”

It was a four year journey for me since elected in 2018 to get to the commitment of $1.2 million to deliver new facilities for Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club and Boronia Cricket Club, but it’s been an even longer journey for them.

So this is an exciting moment. With funding now in the budget that means we can move a step closer to delivering the facilities these legends and the broader community deserve.

$1 million will go towards delivering the new pavilion and $200,000 will go to helping the clubs fit-out the rooms – which means a lot of the stress that usually comes with a new home.

It’s no secret. I’m a massive supporter of grassroots sports and unashamedly so. I believe in it’s power to change lives.

And with these new facilities – it’ll make that job even easier and encourage more people to get involved, particularly girls and women who maybe couldn’t have due to the dated facilities not being fit for purpose.

This will change all that. Now, let’s get on with it!

Learner Driving Course for Under 17’s

The Under 17.5 boys attended a METEC learner driving course last night which is an initiative through the EFNL.

METEC is METEC Driver Training located at 112 Colchester Rd, Bayswater North.

Thanks to Team Manager, Ellisa Schmidtke, who sent us some pics and a report on the night:

“Great opportunity for these young men tonight. They were super impressive with the way they represented the club, and no doubt they all learnt a lot and have a new found appreciation of what it takes to get behind the wheel.”

JUNIORS & SENIORS | WORKING TOGETHER

A massive THANK YOU to Lakey, Robbo, and Collo who took our U12 and U14 boys for Training tonight!

The boys were super enthusiastic and loved showing off their skills! They were thrilled with the bonus Hot Dog for Dinner!

We appreciate you taking the effort to come out on a Friday evening in the cold and wet!! ????
