FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTY WITH A PURPOSE

Since around 2014, the Boronia Hawks FNC and our great rivals up the road, the Basin Bears, have proudly battled it out for the Headspace Community Cup — all in support of raising awareness for mental health.

Last year, the Senior Women’s teams battled it out and prior to that the Seniors Men’s teams did for many years.

This year, it’s the turn of our ageing Men’s Vets teams who took centre stage under lights at Batterham Reserve on Friday 17th April at 7:30pm. Plenty of passion, a bit of friendly rivalry, and a whole lot of heart as they played for bragging rights and a great cause.

Headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation, supporting young people aged 12–25 with early intervention mental health services. It’s an important reminder that no one has to go it alone.

So get down to Batterham Reserve, bring your mates, and support the old boys in what promises to be a fantastic night of footy for an even better cause.

If you’re doing it tough, reach out — to a teammate, a friend, or someone you trust. You can also visit headspace.org.au or contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.

A big thank you to Hawka player Dylan Dower for the donation of the Grow Club Australia Hoodies for the best player from each team.

HEADSPACE CUP | BORONIA v THE BASIN

A cracking day at Batterham Park in the battle for the Headspace Cup between The Basin and Boronia Hawks Senior Womens teams.

The game was played in great spirit, with both teams coming together at the end of the game to chat about the importance of looking out for each other. Thanks to Dyl Dower and GrowClub for the hoodies. Tilly Birkett and Jaimee Monk both looked great in the hoodies after being named best on ground for their respective teams.

THANK YOU TO HAWKS NEST COTERIE GROUP

A very big thank you to our magnificent supporters from the Hawks Nest Coterie Group who made a generous donation to headspace Knox as a result of yesterday’s lunch at the club. We thank them for joining us in supporting this great organisation. We hope you all had a great day! Thanks to Sammi D for the photos.

THANK YOU HEADSPACE KNOX

Boronia Hawks FNC is very privileged to be involved with headspace Knox in the annual Headspace Cup against neighbouring club The Basin. Yesterday’s game resulted in a win for the Hawks, but more importantly it brought into focus the essential role played by headspace throughout Australia. We extend our thanks to headspace Knox for facilitating our participation in spreading their message.

headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation, providing early intervention mental health services to 12–25 year-olds. Based at Westfield Knox Ozone, headspace offers young people a welcoming environment where they can access confidential and free mental health support, health advice, and general information.

Our very own Dylan Dower is also a supporter of headspace Knox through his business Grow Club. headspace receives 100% of all the profits earned by the sale of Dyl’s “go easy” hoodies. These hoodies were presented yesterday to players in the three games against The Basin.

A big thank you goes to Chris from headspace, The Basin Football Netball Club committee and players; and to Dylan Dower.

Headspace Community Cup

On Saturday, our Senior Men played The Basin at Batterham Park for the Headspace Community Cup.

Like all games against our local rival The Basin, the game was played in great spirit with our boys prevailing in the very windy conditions.

Both teams gathered post-game to hear from both Coaches on the importance of reaching out if you are experiencing a personal crisis.

If you are a player, coach, volunteer or supporter please reach out to a friend or teammate and let them know you need help.
