PLAYER SPONSOR | THE JOHNSTON FAMILY

Thank you to ASH, STUART and ALYCE JOHNSTON for player sponsorship of JOSH BEGLEY for the 2024 season.

Begs is obviously one of the best credentialed footballers to join the Hawks for many years. A very successful season with Eastern Ranges in 2016 saw Josh drafted by Essendon that year at #31 in the National Draft. He played 17 AFL games and 28 VFL games with Essendon before moving to Frankston for another 29 VFL games. Josh joined Boronia in 2023 and was a huge factor in our 2023 premiership season.

HAWKS NAMED AMONGST THE BEST PLAYERS IN LOCAL FOOTY | Leader Local Footy

Congratulations to three of our senior men’s players who have been named in the best players in all the metropolitan leagues for 2023. Well done boys!

Ben Robertson: Finished equal-third in the Eastern Division 2 goalkicking this year with 50 majors from 19 matches, helping Boronia to the top of the ladder and the premiership. Capped off a stellar campaign with four goals in the grand final victory over Heathmont.

Josh Begley: Potent through the middle and in attack, the ex-AFL Bomber hauled in big numbers in his return to the league this season, kicking 50 goals from 19 games among a string of high possession counts across the season. A key part in Boronia’s premiership-winning campaign in Eastern’s Division 2 this year, which lost just one match all season.

Mitch Mellis: The lightning-quick 22-year-old midfielder took home Eastern’s Division 2 best and fairest this season, and was a key part of a Boronia outfit which has finished top of the ladder season on the way to the flag. Ruck rover in the Team of the Year.

Big Name Recruits across the League – especially at Boronia Hawks

“Plenty of off-season movement for the Hawks as they increase their depth at the club with multiple star players.

Former Essendon and Frankston midfielder Josh Begley is among those significant signings for the club, opening the premiership window up for the Hawks. Begley brings a combination of leadership, experience and talent with the ability to take the side to another level. He’ll be joined by Jethro Von Hesse who spent the last five seasons at Upwey-Tecoma, the two already have a solid connection with one another. Both are versatile quick big-bodied players with exceptional skills.

The club have also continued to develop their midfield depth and versatility with the additions of young stars, Max Brasher, Luke Flanagan, Haydn Stanley and Lachie Wright.

Both Brasher and Flanagan arrive from Upper Ferntree Gully with experience at senior-level footy in Division One. After two EFNL Best and Fairest awards in his junior career, Brasher has transitioned into senior footy well, placing in the top four of the club’s best and fairest in his first year of senior football. Flanagan has also transitioned into senior footy after winning the 2021 Under 19’s Best and Fairest”.

Welcome to Begs!

Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club is absolutely delighted to announce the signing of former Essendon and Frankston midfielder / forward JOSH BEGLEY.

Josh has informed our club that he is really looking forward to joining The Hawka and playing football with many of his closest mates! Josh’s body strength and running capacity will be a massive addition to our midfield, as will his leadership qualities. We also look forward to welcoming his parents, Bruce and Donna, to our club and making them feel most welcome!

This is obviously a very significant signing and I sincerely thank Josh for his willingness and desire to take our club further up the divisions in the years ahead!
