Boronia Hawks Players & Coaches Recommit for 2019

Boronia Hawks are very pleased to announce to our loyal members and supporters that all twenty-two players from our 2018 Premiership side have now re-signed for the 2019 season. In addition, we are delighted that our coaching panel have all recommitted to the Club as we move into Division 2.

Football Operations Manager, Ash Johnston, said that this is a huge vote of confidence in the Club’s future and that the players realise the opportunities that lie ahead as they go forward together as a group. With lots of talent coming through from Fletch’s Football Factory in the Under 17’s and Under 19’s, as well as the successful programs with Auskick and Junior footy, the Club is well set for the future.

Coaching Announcement: Craig McKenzie

Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club is pleased to announce that Craig “Fletch” McKenzie has once again accepted the dual role as Coach of our Under 17 and Under 19 Squads for 2019.

Fletch’s undoubted talent to develop and mentor young players makes him the ideal person to continue to grow our already successful “One Club” approach and to provide a smooth transition for players as they move from juniors to senior football.

The Club is progressing well with interviews for other junior coaching positions and announcements on the successful candidates will be made in the near future.

From the President

Very proud to be part of Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club today with three teams booking their place in the Grand Final.  Well done to all the boys, the coaching and support staff.  Well done to the volunteers who put all the pieces in place behind the scenes.

So often local football clubs are measured by winning premierships but the feeling amongst the Hawka faithful today after those wins showed how succesful this club already is.  This week is for everyone who’s put in the hard work over the years so our boys (and girls) can go out and have a kick.

We’re one club and we are all in this together. Win, lose or draw next week I’m so proud of this club and everyone associated with it. GO HAWKA.

Scott Nicholas, Senior President, Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club

A HUGE THANK YOU to VicHealth

Boronia Hawks are absolutely delighted to announce that the Club successfully applied for an Active Club Grant from Vic Health to assist in the launch of our Women’s Football Team in 2018.

The Active Club Grant has assisted the Club to start our team from scratch by advertising for players and then equipping the girls with jumpers, footballs, training tops and so on.

As you all know, our team is now competing in Division 2 of the Eastern Region Womens Football League, a competition that is absolutely booming with new teams. The Hawks have a core team of 26 girls, with only a couple having played footy before. Some well known Hawka families are represented in the team, emphasising how the team is already embraced as part of the Boronia football community.

Success is not always measured by the scoreboard, as the girls are loving their footy and the Club could not be prouder of their team spirit and determination to learn, play and develop. We are very lucky to have Ray Lacey and Scott Nicholas, two Hawks greats in their own right, providing their wealth of experience as Co-Coaches for our inaugural team.

The Active Club Grant was made available to support clubs to implement initiatives that will engage more women and girls in sport. Almost half as many women take part in organised sport compared to men, and women are most likely to stop playing sport as teenagers. There is more momentum in female sport than ever before, but Vic Health recognised the need to offer more opportunities for women and girls to get involved in sport at the community level.

Congratulations to Scott Nicholas for his successful grant application. Once again, many thanks to Vic Health for their support of the Boronia Hawks Women’s Football Program.

ERCA SENIOR COACH OF THE MONTH – MATT CLARK!

@boroniahawks are very pleased to congratulate our Senior Coach, Matthew Clark, upon his selection as the Eastern Region Coaches Association “Coach of the Month” winner in the Senior category for April.

Nominations are made by club officials to recognise coaches who are demonstrating: excellent commitment; the ability to pass on knowledge; good coaching behaviour; and are well respected in their community. There is absolutely no doubt that Clarky ticks all these boxes!

As a result of winning “Coach of the Month” Matt is now also a nominee for the ERCA’s “Coach of the Year” to be awarded in October 2018. Congratulations on a very well deserved gong!
