Board Planning Day

The Club’s Board of Directors got together on Sunday morning to develop our strategic action plan as we move towards the resumption of competition in 2021.

2021 Board of Directors

There was lots of ideas as we went through many important initiatives including junior development, child safety regulations, facilities plans for Tormore & Millers, memberships, website upgrade, merchandising, events and budgets!

Great work team! Thanks to the Knox Club for hosting us for the day.

“Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!

Today marks the beginning of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence (25th Nov – 10th Dec).

The 2020 theme of “Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!” references orange being a bright and optimistic colour, representing a future free from violence against women and girls.

BHFNC supports this initiative and its goal to eliminate violence whenever and wherever it occurs.

What can you do?

  • Call out disrespectful behaviour
  • Promote true and inclusive gender equality
  • Challenge gender stereotypes and roles
  • Provide support to survivors of violence

Passing of Louise Holding

BHFNC wishes to pass on its sincere condolences to the Holding family on the sudden passing of Louise.

Louise is the mother of former players Steve ( who sadly passed away last year ) and premiership player Michael ( Plugga ). She was also the wife of Barry who was our senior treasurer for many years.

For the past 35 years, Louise has sat in the car on the far wing and watched hundreds and hundreds of matches, cheering on her Hawks! She loved watching her two boys play footy and she continued watching long after their retirements.

We hope Barry and Plugga and extended families are doing okay during this difficult time.

RIP Louise.

SENIOR TRAINING RESUMES

Our Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s Football Squads are set to resume training next week in strict compliance with COVID-19 protocols for community sport.

All Men’s Under 19’s and Under 17’s are invited to training and ANY NEW PLAYERS for Men and Women’s Footy are VERY WELCOME to join us for a run!

All players are strongly encouraged to register with the EFNL to ensure insurance coverage. Current players should check with the Men’s Hub and the Women’s FB Group for further details.

Sessions will follow the club’s COVID Safe Plan and adhere to guidelines mapped out by AFL Victoria’s Return to Train Protocols.

Please direct any enquiries by email to boronia@efnl.org.au or via message to this FB page. Further details of COVID compliance will be shared in a few days. https://efnl.org.au/football-registration/

COVID UPDATE: No Club Training …. yet.

AFL Victoria has released updated protocols that identify the requirements to enable sporting clubs to return to training activities. The EFNL is keeping the Club fully informed on these matters, and the Club’s Board is making appropriate preparations.

IN THE MEANTIME, THERE IS TO BE NO TRAINING CONDUCTED BY TEAMS REPRESENTING BORONIA HAWKS.

The Club’s Board and Committees will advise when this can commence, but it will be subject to strict compliance with all state government, local government and EFNL requirements.

Individual exercise may continue in accordance with Victorian Government guidelines in respect of COVID compliance.

Boronia Hawks support NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week 2020 (8-15 November) is an opportunity to celebrate the culture, achievements and history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The theme ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’ recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.

Boronia Hawks would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we play our beloved sports, football and netball, and for their contribution to our game and nation.

Boronia Hawks receive new grant from Knox City Council

Boronia Hawks’ Community Programs have received a very generous boost from Knox City Council’s fund for Community Development Grants.

The Club successfully applied for a grant to assist with the funding of programs to support our juniors in the important area of mental health.

Program 1 is to be provided for Junior players by our partners at Outside the Locker Room. Two sessions will be conducted with the first covering Mental Health and the second covering Social Media and Cyberbullying.

Program 2 will be provided by St John Ambulance for our Junior Committee and /or coaches and will cover the essential skills and confidence to recognise and support people with a range of mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, suicide and addiction.

Once again the extraordinary skills of Kerryn Westcott in writing a professional grant application have benefitted the Club in funding these two programs. We are very grateful to Kerryn and of course Karen Little, our Director of Community & Inclusion, for their teamwork in developing our Grants Program to support our young players.

Appointment of Under 19’s Coaches

Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club Inc. is proud to announce the appointment of Pierre Schumann to the role of Under 19’s Coach for season 2021.

We are also delighted to announce that Pierre will be joined by senior players Ben Robertson and Sean Young as Assistant Coaches. Robbo has been involved with the Under 19’s for several years while Youngy joins the panel in his first year at Boronia. We expect a couple more announcements in the very near future.

Pierre is a former junior and senior premiership player of our Club and brings with him a wealth of coaching experience to our Under 19 player cohort. I was fortunate to have Pierre as my development coach in a ‘previous life’ at another club and I can guarantee you our players will get a passionate, caring, and knowledgeable coach who drives high standards and behaviours that mirror the culture and values of our senior club.

Pierre’s record as a local coach in relation to premiership success is second to none.  Having coached 6 teams to premierships, Pierre has an intricate understanding on what is required to create sustained team success.

Shoey, it is fantastic to have you back at ‘The Hawka’ and we look forward to watching you prepare and develop our senior players of the future!
