BACK TO BORONIA | JAMES HOFFMAN

Boronia Hawks FNC is excited to announce that JAMES HOFFMAN is #backtoboronia and has signed to play again in 2025, which will be his fourth senior season with the Hawks.

Hoff took the season off in 2023 and played some games in the Outer East but is now back home. Like many of our squad, he started with the Hawks in Under 9’s and played a massive 132 junior games. He played a lot of very good footy in the 19’s, and was a premiership player in 2018. A foundation member of “The Fortress”, the renowned defensive unit of the Dev. Squad, Hoff will be a very welcome player to have back at the Hawka for many years yet.

WELCOME TO DANIEL HOUEIX

Boronia Hawks FNC is thrilled to announce the signing of DANIEL HOUEIX for the coming seasons. Daniel brings a wealth of experience from his playing and coaching roles within the EFNL, most notably as a member of the 2023 Mitcham senior premiership team and as an assistant coach for the Mitcham U19.5 team. His playing background also includes time with Eastern Ranges.

On the professional side, Dan is currently with the EFNL in the important role of Junior Football Manager. He “spent the last 6 years working at the Collingwood Football Club across several roles, including Member and Fan Operations Coordinator and Consumer Operations Manager as well as assisting in the Collingwood VFL and VFLW operation teams”. That’s a great resume.

Daniel’s leadership and knowledge of Division 1 will be a fantastic addition to the Hawks. As Daniel said “The opportunity and fresh start with a good bunch of lads really excites me, and especially after speaking with Clarky last week, I’m excited with what we can achieve in Division 1“.

Please join us all in welcoming Dan to the Hawks.

BACK TO BORONIA | JAYDEN PURDON

Boronia Hawks FNC is extremely happy to announce that JAYDEN PURDON has signed to return to Boronia in 2025, which will be his fifth season of senior football with the Hawks.

Jayden played 40 under 19’s games with Boronia, winning the David Murrihy Medal for B&F in 2016 and runner-up in 2017. He also played in the back to back Reserves premierships in 2018/19. He spent the last two seasons at FTG, his original junior club, and played both seasons in the one’s. With great skills and balance, we are delighted to welcome Purdo back to Tormore.

COACHING OPPORTUNITY | WOMEN’S DEVELOPMENT TEAM

Boronia Hawks FNC welcomes expressions of interest for the role of Women’s Development Team Coach for the 2025 EFNL season.

We have an exciting and growing Women’s Football Program and our coaching team is led by Sean Buncle, a former VFLW premiership coach with Port Melbourne. We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join the coaching staff and take game day responsibility for our Development Team. We are open to a playing or non-playing coach, and are very happy to assist a candidate who is keen to start their own coaching journey.

Please reach out to Sean Buncle or Scott Nicholas via email boronia@efnl.org.au no later than Monday 7 October.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO SCOTT NICHOLAS AND TEAM

BHFNC is indebted to the contribution Scott Nicholas has made to our women’s program since its inception. Scott has been a driving force in promoting the women’s program, recruiting for the women’s program, and coaching the women’s program!

His energy and drive have seen our program not only grow but win a Division 1 Women’s premiership in 2023. Scott should reflect on his contribution and be incredibly proud of all his achievements during his tenure. Concluding with three adult female teams at our club is one hell of an accolade!

Scott’s advocacy and passion were also at the forefront of the recruiting of his replacement in Sean Buncle who has, indeed, big shoes to fill!

I also wish to acknowledge Ray Lacey, Karen Little, Candyce Harris, and Jordan Granland who were with Scott at the very beginning and have all played a significant role in creating and developing our senior women’s program. On behalf of everyone at the club, thank you!

  • Karen Little from Boronia Hawks Women's Football.

Although Scott will no longer be the Head Coach, he will not disappear from the club and will still be heavily involved in supporting Sean and growing our female program in the years ahead. On behalf of the Board and the Committee and all supporters of our club Scott, great job, and thank you!

NEW HEAD COACH FOR SENIOR WOMEN’S TEAM

Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club is thrilled to announce the appointment of SEAN BUNCLE as our new Head Coach of the Senior Women’s team for the 2025 season. Sean brings an impressive resume and a wealth of experience from the highest levels of women’s football, most notably his successful tenure as coach of the Port Melbourne VFLW team, where he led them to the 2023 VFLW Premiership.

With a deep understanding of the game and a proven track record of success, Sean’s arrival marks a significant step in the continued growth and development of our women’s football program. His leadership and insight, gained from a number of years coaching at the elite level, are expected to further elevate the Boronia Hawks’ standing within the local women’s football community.

Sean Buncle’s coaching journey is underpinned by a passion for developing players and fostering a successful and respectful environment and culture. His success with Port Melbourne in guiding them to the 2023 VFLW premiership is a testament to his coaching acumen and his ability to bring out the best in his teams. We are confident that his expertise will be instrumental in driving our Senior Women’s team to further heights in the coming seasons.

Sean Buncle

“I’m honoured to be appointed as the new senior women’s coach of the Boronia Hawks. There’s a great sense of pride in the program within the community, and I look forward to building on the fantastic work that has put it in such a strong position. I’m looking forward to working with the talented group of players here and building on the strong foundations already in place.”

The club would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the incredible contribution of SCOTT NICHOLAS, our outgoing coach. Scott has been the driving force behind the establishment, growth, and success of our women’s football program—a program that is now the envy of many clubs. His dedication and vision have created a platform that has attracted a coach of Sean’s calibre, and for that, we owe Scott an immense debt of gratitude.

Scott Nicholas

Scott leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered for years to come. His leadership has played a pivotal role in making our women’s football program one of the most respected in the competition, and his impact on our women’s football program will be felt for years to come. Scott will be continuing to support our Women’s Program in a new role that will be announced very soon.

As we look toward the 2025 season, the Boronia Hawks are excited about what the future holds with Sean Buncle at the helm. His appointment represents not just a new chapter, but a continuation of the commitment to growth, development and excellence that has defined the Boronia Hawks Senior Women’s program from its inception.

Boronia Hawks is always open to welcome new female players to our program. We offer two senior women’s teams, one 35+ Masters team and Under 18’s. If you are interested in learning more, please reach out to Sean or Scott at boronia@efnl.org.au

WELCOME TO BORONIA | JORDAN CHURCH

Boronia Hawks FNC is delighted to announce the signing of Jordan Church. Jordan, the son of former Bob Henry Medallist Russell Church and nephew to former star Rod ‘Rocket’ Church will be a welcomed addition to our already burgeoning father-and-son brigade.

Jordan is an exciting recruit with a fantastic record over the past few years. He won the 2022 FTG B&F in Under 17A, finishing top three in the league. He made his senior debut in 2023 and played every senior game. In 2024, Jordan has just won the FTG Senior B&F as an 18 year old and was selected in the 2024 Division 3 Team of the Year.

Jordan’s pop, Mark, was a massive supporter of our club and would be looking down proudly on this signing knowing his grandson has joined the club he loved so much! It is great to have the Church family back at Boronia.
