RECOMMITTED FOR 2024 | SLATER and QUIRK

Boronia Hawks are very pleased to announce the recommitment of two of the break out players from the 2023 Premiership season. Please congratulate Rach and Quirky.

Rachael Slater is one of the EFNL’s best young talents and almost capped off the perfect season in 2023 finishing with Blue Ribbon Medal in the Grand Final, a Premiership medallion, a second consecutive Ellen Johnson Medal and finishing second in the league Best & Fairest. Rachael is powerful, aggressive and only getting better and we can’t wait to see where she takes her footy in 2024!

Rach Quirk’s combination of athleticism, fierce attack on the ball and willingness to do all the 1%’s to make the team better added a huge amount to the squad in 2023. Finishing third in the league Best & Fairest and named Ruck in the Team of the Year, Quirky will only keep getting better!

RECOMMITTED FOR 2024 | WATSON, GOTTLIEBSEN & GLARE

Boronia Hawks are very happy to announce the recommitment of three of our team leaders from the 2023 Premiership season for the upcoming 2024 season. Please congratulate Bree, Ali and April.

Boronia’s inaugural Senior Premiership Captain is a smart, reliable defender with great skills and leadership who generates a lot of our attack from defence. Bree is already putting in a big pre-season ready to build on the success of last season, in 2024!

Our hard running Centre Half Back took a big leap in 2023 developing her skills and fitness spending more time in the midfield and expanding her game. Ali has been named in the Team of the Year in 2022 (Premier) and 2023 (Division 1) and still getting better!

April had her best season in brown and gold in 2023 on the back of a HUGE pre-season. Her ability to run all day, matched with size and strength allowed her to play big roles on some of the competitions best forwards.

COACHING ANNOUNCEMENTS | SENIOR WOMEN’S FOOTBALL

Boronia Hawks are excited to announce the appointment of Candyce Harris and Jordan Granland as Co-Coaches of the Boronia Women’s Development Team for the 2024 season.

Candyce has been a part of the club’s women’s program since 2018, initially as a player before transitioning into coaching, now entering her fourth season coaching within the Development Squad. Candyce brings to the squad a passion and commitment for women’s sport and will continue to give players a welcoming and supportive environment for their football.

Elevated into the position of co-coach is Jordan Granland, who will continue to bring a wealth of football knowledge and coaching experience to the Development Squad after initially joining as an Assistant Coach in 2023. Jordy is a former senior player with Boronia and has coached seven years of junior football at Boronia and other clubs including four Grand Final appearances!

Announcement | 2024 Senior Women’s Coaches

Boronia Hawks are excited to announce the Senior Women’s Coaching panel for the 2024 season. The coaches who took the team through the finals to win the Division 1 premiership have all been re-appointed.

Please join us all in congratulating Scott Nicholas as head coach and assistants Nicole Guy and Lachie Watson, while Brad Slater is appointed in a new role as Senior Women’s Performance Manager.

We are fortunate to have these four coaches with strong experience with women’s football programs. They have been instrumental in developing our team culture, values and game plans and empowering our players to take on their own leadership within the squad. We look forward to the coaches and players continuing their development pathways and to achieving successful outcomes again in the coming season.

Scott Nicholas has been appointed to coach our Senior Women’s Team for the sixth season following the 2023 Division 1 premiership. Scott is now widely recognised as a leading Women’s coach in the EFNL and was the league’s Senior Coach of the Year, across men and women’s football, in 2021. He was also named as Coach of the 2023 Division 1 Team of the Year.

Nicole Guy was welcomed to the Hawks’ coaching panel during the 2023 season, coming over from Ferntree Gully. She won one B&F with FTG and was also runner up B&F, despite suffering two severe knee injuries in each of her two seasons. The injuries curtailed her playing career, so she began coaching, including the 2022 season in Premier Division alongside Tim Cavanagh. Nicole very quickly became a valued part of the Boronia coaching team and played a key role in the latter part of the season.

Lachie Watson will continue in his role as Senior Assistant Coach, having been with the team from the first season in 2018. Lachie is well known to all Hawks supporters for his explosive football skills since he came up from the juniors. He now applies his excellent football brain and teaching skills to our Women’s Program again in 2024.

Brad Slater will take up a new role as Senior Women’s Performance Manager in 2024. He has been part of Boronia’s coaching team for two years and brings enormous experience to the squad. He played over 200 games at Mitcham in Division 1 before an extensive coaching career, most recently with St. Simons and Rowville Knights where he coached Under 15, Under 16 and Under 18 girls from 2016-2020.

Congratulations to all the Boronia players selected in the EFNL Teams of the Year for Division 1 Women and Division 2 Men. In particular, we can be very proud that our two Premiership Coaches, Scott Nicholas and Matt Clark, have been recognised as coaches of these 2023 Teams of the Year.

2024 RE-SIGNINGS | BRASHER, FLANAGAN, JELO & J MELLIS

BHFNC are delighted to announce the re-signing of Max Brasher, Luke Flanagan, Mitch Jelo and Jake Mellis.

Max Brasher was recruited to the Hawka this year and has not put a foot wrong. He’s a skillful, fit player and a natural runner. Max adds depth and class to our midfield and we are absolutely stoked to have Max sign on for another year at Boronia and we all hope he becomes a 200-game player for our club.

Luke Flanagan has not put in a bad performance across half-back all year and gives our defence run and consistency of effort. This kid can play! He comes from a ripping family and just belongs at our club.

Mitch Jelo was also recruited this season, across from Noble Park. He arrived not knowing anyone but we soon got to know his tough, uncompromising, old style, and his dangerous nature around goals. Mitch’s re-signing is a real boost for our club!

Jake Mellis is our most talented utility player and has really stamped his authority this season, making himself a respected and highly regarded senior player. Coming from a great Hawka family where his father and uncle played many games in the brown and gold, and having a mother who has been on various junior committee and senior committee roles to now senior team manager, Jake is continuing and maintaining the Mellis family tradition. Jake is a most talented player and brings with him team enthusiasm and culture that we would love to be able to bottle! We love Jake being at our club! A top bloke, a real team player and a bloody good old-fashioned player!!!
