Xmas Message from Senior President

On behalf of our senior committee, I’d like to wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas period. This time of the year is always an opportune time to reflect on the year past and search for what we have to look forward to in the year ahead. I would argue strongly that the role of a community football/netball club has never been more important.

The digital world has offered us so much but with it comes greater levels of anxiety, mental health issues and disconnection from society. What does a club like Boronia Hawks offer? We offer a community of friends that actually talk to each other, that offer support to each other and that offers a ‘home’ away from home for people to ‘escape’ the pressures of day to day life and to be with people that have a similar aspiration – to make our community club be as good as it can be.

Our club is very much a community. We have people from a variety of backgrounds and on the whole, we treat each other with great respect and care. I know this because new people that join our club tell me how welcoming we are and how much they value our club ‘culture.’

No club is perfect, but if we all work together with a solution focussed mindset, great things can be achieved!

This season saw our teams play finals; we invested in technology to support our coaching/playing group; we invested in player well-being programs and we invested in capital works ( new ground lighting ). We were able to do this and still be vigilant in managing our expenditures and ensuring that we can offer our players a ‘high performance’ environment to play in.

Every year players leave and players join our club. For those who have decided to leave ‘The Hawka,’ we wish you nothing but great success and enjoyment at your new homes. Clearly understand, you are always welcome back at Tormore. Do not be strangers! To those that have joined us, we look forward to welcoming you to our club. For those like Harry and Andy who are returning, it’s great to have you back boys!

Thank you to everyone that has supported me in my first year as Club President and I hope you all have a great summer break with your families.

Greg “Flash” Hannon

Boronia Vets say Thank You to Ozito

Last night the Boronia Veterans commenced their pre-season training for the up and coming 2020 season.

Boronia Vets kick start the season with new footballs sponsored by Ozito.

They were in for a treat, as having trained for years with hand me down footballs, which often resembled basketballs, this season they will now be kicking around brand new Sherrins thanks to Ozito Industries.

With the donation of some great power tools, a few of the boys were able to raise some much needed cash to fund the purchase of these balls.

Veterans Coach Greg Joseph with Wayne Preston, Boronia Hawks Vice President.

A big thank you to Ozito Industries for their ongoing support to Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club.

If you interested in playing Veterans footy with Boronia, please contact Greg Joseph (Coach) on 0412 604 249 or Jason Davis (Team Manager) on 0425 749 818?.

Under 17’s Coaching Announcement

BHFNC is delighted to announce the return of 1986 premiership player, Pierre Schumann as 2020 Under 17 Coach.

Left to Right: Andrew Catley (Junior Coaching Co-ordinator); Craig McKenzie (Under 19’s Coach); Kristan Wood (Junior President); Pierre Schumann (Under 17’s Coach) and Nick Wheeler (Under 17’s Assistant Coach).

Pierre has a long and distinguished career as both a player and coach. He has coached Under 19 teams to 4 premierships and reserves teams to 2 premierships at Knox Football Club. Only this year, Pierre was coach of a most successful Under 19’s side at Knox.

Supporting Pierre will be Nick Wheeler and Kim Brimelow. Nick has had coaching experience at Knox, Eastern Ranges and Upper Gully Football Clubs. Nick brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience and he will be great support to Pierre. Kim also has a wealth of coaching experience and we are confident this coaching team will give our players the foundations required to be successful at the senior level.

We welcome Pierre, Kim and Nick to ‘The Hawka’ and wish them much enjoyment and success. Our club will now work tirelessly to ensure we have a robust list of players to work with.

The announcement of other junior coaching appointments will be made in the next week or two.
