Sporting Club Grants Don’t Just Happen

There has been a lot of publicity lately about community sporting grants. Putting all that aside, Boronia Hawks has been very fortunate to have the support of Kerryn Westcott over recent years. Kerryn works as a professional in the area of grants programs and has been involved in the preparation of applications for our recent successful grants including the Tormore Lights installation and the two new electronic scoreboards at Millers Reserve and Tormore Reserve.

Kerryn will now be working with Karen Little, another professional who is closely involved with grants funding as part of her “day job”. Karen is of course the Club’s Director, Community and Inclusion and will be playing both football and netball with the Hawks in 2020.

These two great supporters of the Club will work together to research, identify and prioritise grants opportunities offered by all three levels of government and various authorities and foundations. Please join us all in thanking them both for their support of the Club.

If anyone is interested in a voluntary role with Boronia Hawks in 2020, please contact Senior President Greg Hannon on 0438 616 130 or Junior President Kristan Wood on 0411 605 203.

Introducing TD Solutions

Boronia Hawks has engaged with TD Solutions – Sports Administration and held a very successful workshop last week.

TDS has assisted the Club’s Board in the preparation of a “Health Check” which indicated that the Club is in good hands and is well managed.

BUT….. TDS also highlighted the need to share the load and help our volunteers in their efforts to help the Club to prosper and grow. A number of other priorities were identified and the Board and committees are already focused on implementing these initiatives.

Stand by for more exciting announcements and opportunities in the coming weeks! In the meantime, thank you to Terry and the team at TDS!

Announcing the Hawka Legends Game!

Do you remember watching Ray Lacey weave his magic through the middle? Would you like to see Ellen Johnson out of the canteen and in the forward pocket? Would multi B&F winner Panda Green swap his running top for a playing jumper? Do you want to be reminded of how Stephen Little got the nickname Shuttlebus?

Ray Lacey in his 300th Senior Game for Boronia.

To recognise and celebrate the contribution to our Club by past players, current players, netballers, volunteers and sponsors, Boronia Hawks will be hosting an inclusive game of footy to be played UNDER LIGHTS, following the Senior Men’s game on May 30th 2020.

Boronia Football Club Preseason Training

More details will follow but for now we would like your nominations of who you would like invited to see play, captain a team and coach a team.

2013 Veterans Grand Final: Boronia v South Croydon

We would also like suggestions for umpires, runners and goal umpires.

Please comment on Facebook or you can email your nominations to Karen Little at hawkalegends@gmail.com

As Tim Edwards would say “Let’s do it for the jumper!”

Vale Peter Allen

It is with great sadness that the Club learns today of the passing of Peter Allen. Pete has battled with ill health for several years, but never lost his cheerful and chatty nature as he faced ongoing treatment. He was a great supporter of his children’s sporting activities, both footy and basketball, and was always a regular at Boronia matches to watch Nick and Nathan in action.

In latter years, he felt the chill and spent most of the day watching, and possibly dozing, in a car by the fence. Generally of a quiet disposition, he could be quite loud if one of his boys copped one high. Advice to the umpire was not unknown either. There was no prouder father than Pete last September when Nathan was named Blue Ribbon Medallist in the Reserves’s Grand Final win.

Pete will be sadly missed for many years to come. Our sincere love and sympathy goes out to Nathan, Nick, Caitlin, Pip and their extended families.

The service to celebrate the life of Pete Allen is on Wednesday 22nd January at 2pm at the Knox Chapel, Alison Monkhouse, cnr Stud Rd and Burwood Hwy, Wantirna.

Following the ceremony Pete’s family will come together again with family and friends at the Knox Club, Elms Function Room.
